Subproject 7: Grounding line and supraglacial meltwater at the 79°N glacier
Subproject 7 aims to determine the position of the grounding line as well as the spatial and temporal variation of supra-glacial meltwater. Data from various national and European SAR systems such as TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X, COSMO-Skymed, Sentinel-1 as well as archive data from ERS-1/2 and ENVISAT SAR) are used. Double-differentiated radar interferograms allow detection of the grounding line at different times. To map the melt dynamics and the evolution of supraglacial lakes, evaluation algorithms are adapted and further developed. These evaluations are complemented by the analysis of data from optical satellite data. From this, in particular the depth and volume of the meltwater lakes are estimated and high-quality Albedo maps are generated. The main sources of data for these analyzes are the European Sentinel-2 and the LANDSAT-8 missions. This analysis is complemented by data products of the coarser resolved MODIS time series.
